Lawmakers consider N.Y. government shutdown 09 Jun 2010 State legislators raised the prospect of forcing a government shutdown during a public budget meeting with Gov. David Paterson (D) on Wednesday... Each Monday, legislators vote on a new, one-week spending plan. Rejection of the plan would lead to a government shutdown. Senate Republicans have said they will continue to vote in unison against the spending plans, as a way to protest the stalled and secretive budget negotiations.
