US Senate blocks bid to restore $4.5 billion for food aid 20 Jun 2012 The US Senate has overwhelmingly rejected a bid to preserve some $4.5 billion in food stamps funding, as part of the massive farm bill. The request to keep that spending in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps, had been offered by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y). But her plea went down 33 to 66. Sixty votes were needed to pass. Gillibrand had warned that reduction in the SNAP would result in half-a-million US households losing an average $90 in monthly food benefits.

Isn't it strange that we "claim" to be a Christian nation. Yet the bible admonishes the people to "FEED THE HUNGRY" "CLOTHE THE NAKED, AND "CARE FOR THE SICK AND DYING. Isn't there something in the bible about, "What you do for the least among us you have done for me?" We seem to be acceptable to passing laws that give tax breaks for the wealthy, but balk at having to give to those in need of basics.
Why are we so backwards. My daughter was an exchange student to Finland many years ago. She had a minor medical problem and went to the doctor. She asked the doctor how much the charge would be. He told her, "THERE IS NO CHARGE, EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO MEDICAL CARE."
Why is the United States of America so far behind other human beings on this Earth? Are we ignorant, or are we just selfish?
