US denies Assange 'secret warrant' 01 Jun 2012 The United States has denied it is secretly preparing legal action against Julian Assange as supporters of the WikiLeaks founder explore fresh legal moves to stop his extradition to Sweden to face questioning over rape allegations. The US ambassador to Australia, Jeffrey Bleich, yesterday rejected as "an invention" claims that Washington was preparing a warrant for the arrest of Mr Assange over WikiLeaks' role in publishing thousands of secret US diplomatic cables last year.

1. Assange is to be tried in Sweden for rape. I don’t know if he’s guilty, but the woman who claims to have been taken advantage of while being asleep, despite her expressed wish not to have sex without a condom, has a right to this trial. It is a weird bunch of freedom fighters who think because you’re famous you should be above law.
2. Sweden would never extradite Assange to the US, because no law permits it.
3. The US would never demand Assange’s extradition, simply because they would gain nothing from it. He hasn’t committed any crime in the US, and an extended trial would only result in headlines they definitely don’t want. There is nothing to gain by making him a martyr – right now he is right where they prefer – nearly forgotten and depicted as a pathetic coward who doesn’t dare to face a rape-charge.
