An Inconvenient Lie
Dick Cheney remarked on Thursday that it's an 'inconvenient truth' that the bloody conflict in Iraq is the key front in the war on terror. Thank you, Dick, for this very clear analogy. This is a nice example for those students studying analogies for the SAT:
The war in Iraq is to the terrorism there as carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels are to global warming.
Iraq War : Terrorism :: Carbon Emissions : Global Warming, where the first term is the cause of the second. Bravo!
Just as the 'inconvenient truth' of global warming was caused by lack of foresight, greed and a recalcitrant denial of the facts, so the 'inconvenient truth' that Iraq is now the "key front in the war on terror" was also caused by lack of foresight, greed and a recalcitrant denial of the facts. The analogy is perfect!
Once again, the reasoning of the Bush regime is that they need to keep fighting the war in Iraq because the War in Iraq has now brought a mess of terrorism to Iraq. On that reasoning, we might as well invade another country and suggest the same thing when the people there fight back. "Look, Dick, they are fighting back! We better escalate this war!"
No wonder our educational system is failing. Look at the IDIOCY that passes for logic in the public sphere!
Where is the press to call these fabrications of reasoning out on the carpet? Why can't a leading Democrat "articulate" the simple correction of this idiocy?
Iraq is a mess because we made it a mess! So, idiots, are you going to do the same thing and expect different results? Or, will you do something different, you morons?
Of course, they are not the idiots for using justifications that they know are false. We are the idiots for not exposing and trouncing upon them mercilessly.
Let's call this 'justification' for escalation of a disaster what it is: an inconvenient lie!
