Cheney Protest Report
About 200 protestors rallied outside of the Boyce campus of Allegheny Community College, where the Cheney "Town Hall Meeting" (by invitation only) took place. Chanting such slogans as "why weren't we invited," and "clean energy now," environmental groups and other activists, such as Citizens for Legitimate Government (CLG) and the International Socialist Organization (ISO) protested the Cheney energy scam. I shouted that "Bush stole the election and Enron paid for it" to the invitees and college students, as they went in and out of the building. I also handed out a whole box full of the Democracy Chronicle to students and interested protestors unfamiliar with the pro-democracy movement.
After about an hour, and before the "town hall meeting" let out, the environmental groups, who from my way of thinking spend too little effort connecting Bush's energy plans to his dirty campaign donors and the theft of the presidency, almost all departed. This left the CLG, Votermarch people and the ISO to "greet" the crowd as they left, and to get in Cheney's face as the limos went by. Frank Beal managed to find Cheney's escape hatch route and put his sign "Selected, Not Elected" in Cheney's face as he went out of the compound. I was interviewed by KQV AM Radio, and the small group of protestors remaining at the end formed a backdrop to a TV news reporter's story.
The protest made the 11 o'clock news of at least one Pittsburgh TV station, as well as receiving a story in the Post-Gazette. The Post-Gazette article follows. Though the CLG started and organized this protest, and alerted the Sierra Club and others, we were not mentioned. It appears that groups that dare to tie the energy plan to the election scam are verboten subjects.
