Michael Rectenwald replies to a rightwinger who writes, " YOU FOLKS ARE REALLY A TRIP!" Letter CLG received via contactus -- June 2, 2002: Why don't all of you socialist liberals move to California and succeed from the United States? Or maybe go to China where you will really fit in with all of your views on free speech (there isn't any) gun control (no problem there either), etc. You think (or feel, excuse me) that the only "true" views are your views which are parroted and spun on the major network "news". Your philosophy is the reason that the Constitution has been trashed, our society dumbed down to the lowest common denominator and freedom is in jeopardy. Get lost.... Respectfully, Dave Michael Rectenwald's reply -- June 3, 2002: Dave, Next, we are very much in favor of free speech, which right has been egregiously eroded under the current illegitimate mis-ministration (a neologism, Dave, so don't try to look it up, although there is apparently no danger there). So, your point about China, whatever on earth it is, is quite lost on us. Just what the hell is the connection, dear Dave? Secondly, gun control is something that is obviously needed. So again, what is your point? If the rightwing judges were truly consistent in their "original context" interpretations of the Constitution, they'd admit that the context of that amendment was not self-protection of a bunch of morons from each other, but rather the protection against an overwhelming centralized government power. Given the arms race and the nuclear capability of the U.S., this is rather a moot point now. But, you're welcome to round up all of your gun-toting, tobacco-spitting, radio-programmed, moronic truck-driving friends, and take your rifle shots at the U.S. armories. Good luck. With Timothy McVeigh as your exemplar, you should go far. As for the news, you might not realize this, but all of the major media in the U.S. are owned and controlled by major corporations, and their advertisers are likewise major corporations. These major corporations favor the rightwing, since as this current mis-minstration has shown, the rightwing are corporate pimps and whores, and give away the government (supposedly of by and for the people) to said corporations. Given their corporate character, the idea that the media is "liberal" is one of the most ridiculous myths ever perpetrated on a completely credulous and inane public "mind." Again, Dave, get an education. Your email demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge--historically, politically, and in terms of media studies. You might want to matriculate in my Fall semester class--wait, you wouldn't even be admitted to the university where I teach. Sorry. How about cleaning up the crumbs under my desk? Now go away and make your inchoate, inarticulate and idiotic noises some place else. Michael Rectenwald
