Vote Tampering: It may very well have been a reality in Florida.

By Sharman Braff

There is compelling evidence that Bush stole Florida by tampering with as many as 75,000 ballots.

You have probably heard that Florida experienced an unusually high number of "overvotes," ballots thrown out because more than one hole was punched for president. And you are probably aware that these ballots came disproportionately from Afro-American precincts, voters who backed Al Gore heavily.

What you have not heard in the mainstream press is that the number of overvotes was not just unusual, it was off the charts. In the words of two different elections experts, Florida's overvote was "phenomenal," "outrageous." And you have not been told that there were four times as many Gore ballots ruined by double-punching as Bush's.

In fact, if not for the overvote, Al Gore would have won Florida by 50,000 votes.

The official explanation for the overvote is "voter confusion," first-time, uneducated voters misled by confusing ballots. But that explanation does not wash. For one thing, most of Palm Beach's 19,000 overvotes came from Jewish/seniors precincts. These are highly educated, longtime voters who—like Afro-Americans—just happen to vote heavily Democratic. And there were 36,000 overvotes from counties that reported no ballot confusion problems.

The most damning evidence is some 5,800 ballots found by the Washington Post that were punched for both Gore and Bush. No voter makes that mistake. These were either ballots pre-punched for Bush, or stacks of ballots punched through for Bush. This scheme ensures that no Bush votes are ruined, only Gore's. The Washington Post study did not include Duval County's 22,000 overvotes, so there are probably more than 5,800. There is no conceivable explanation for the Gore/Bush overvotes but tampering.
