NYPD on Alert as 9/11 Terror Plot Probed --New York City can expect more checkpoints along bridges, tunnels and subways. 09 Sep 2011 The NYPD is stepping up security citywide as U.S. intelligence officials have picked up threat information about possible terror attacks timed with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday. The NYPD increased 'protective' measures citywide Thursday evening. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said New Yorkers should expect more subway bag checks, as well as extra security at tunnels, bridges, ferries, infrastructure and places of worship. "The public is likely to see, and maybe somewhat inconvenienced by, vehicle checkpoints at various locations throughout the city," Kelly said.
