Let's face it; the whole reason for a US 'surge' in Iraq is an attempted 'resurgence' of Bush's self- and 'presidential' esteem. Cheney's comments today make this all too clear. The reason for refusing coitus interruptus ("pulling out") has to do with "honour"-i.e., a manly reputation. The success of the 'insurgence' provoked a 'resurgence' for combating what Cheney called today "the perception of weakness" by the enemy, which includes not only terrorists and insurgents, but all of Bush and Cheney's critics, especially the Democrats and their activist base.
With Blair's Britons pulling out soon only the Americans have their manly members in a jam.
This is even worse than having to ask for directions in a strange town. The humiliation is overwhelming.
All that remains is for Bush to realize that he has killed his father, Laura Bush is his mother, and his children are also his siblings. That would complete the Oedipal tragedy. (It would also make sense of Bush's family history-Barbara Bush, a mother?) Only then might he realize that he has been blind all along, and finally materialize his blindness by plucking his eyes out.
In other words, folks, the tragedy has already been written and we are well beyond the dénouement. All we need do is to wait for the protagonists to realize their fate.
